Botanical Illustration Card | Forget-Me-Not
Inspired by Victorian botanical illustrations and vintage apothecary style this beautiful Forget-Me-Not / Myosotis Forsteri drawing is one of a set of eight greeting card designs. It is printed on a crisp white background and comes with a craft envelope.
This is the less well known Forster's Forget-Me-Not, endemic to New Zealand, living on the banks of watercourses, in forests around springs, seepages and on damp, shaded rock outcrops. Many species of Forget-Me-Not in NZ have a conservation status of threatened, but not, thankfully, Myosotis forsteri.
Myosotis comes from the Greek for "mouse's ear", which the foliage is thought to resemble. "Forget-me-not" comes from from the German Vergissmeinnicht and first used in English in 1398 by King Henry IV of England. Myosotis are food for the larvae of some butterfly and moth species.
